Capturing 3D models has helped a research team that uses Photofly Project in Pompeii archaeological site to document and analyze the architecture of one of the biggest buildings, but the least understood in the area.
“Although the standard practice of archaeological recording is now reliable, but the process is slow,” said assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Eric Poehler.
“Every year we only had a short time at the Pompeii archaeological site to capture them into 3D models, and with Project Photofly, we were able to improve the efficiency and accuracy dramatically,” he added.
Make Autodesk applications 123d is also a free technology preview and new to Macs, to be able to 3D digital models into 2D pattern pieces so that it can be easily coupled through low-cost materials, such as cardboard, wood, cloth, metal or plastic.
